Over the past several years, God has placed a desire on our heart for adoption. We knew that one day we would welcome a child into our home. As the years have passed, we have shared this desire with our children and they have been eager to adopt a sibling. We kept praying over the decision and waiting on God to tell us when to start the process. Meanwhile, we were realizing that we were growing more and more comfortable, making the decision harder. One night, while tucking Tayler into bed, she asked us when we were going to start the adoption process. I replied by saying "if" we adopt, however, she very promptly corrected me to say "it's not a matter of IF we adopt, it's a matter of WHEN." Instead of receiving that "letter in the mail" type of clarification that we (Jenn and Derek) often prefer, God used His Word, along with the not-so-subtle urging of a nine year old girl. For so long, our family has let fear control our decision to move forward. Literally, two or three days after that conversation with Tayler, I read these words:
"Sometimes people are paralyzed by fear of failure. They are so afraid that they might do the wrong thing, that they do nothing. We need to learn to err on the side of action, because we tend to default to negligence... For example: why not assume you should adopt kids unless you hear a voice telling you not to? That seems biblical since God has told us that true religion is to care for the widows and orphans (James 1:27)" - Francis Chan
This quote really hit home for us as a family because we have hid behind the fear of failing and the fear of losing our comfort. do not take this post as a message that everyone should adopt. So, here we are now, just having completed our home study and moving forward with more paperwork that will bring us closer to bringing home our child. We have felt drawn to international adoption and are pursuing a little girl from India! We are not currently matched with our child yet, but will let you all know as soon as we are matched. Our adoption is expected to cost roughly around $35,000. We trust in God’s provision and His timing! As we continue in this process, we would love for you to join us in the journey!
