Adoption Journey

Mercy Reuter Sioux Falls, South Dakota

Maggie (aka Mercy) and I started our adoption journey in May of 2018.  After a few years of not being able to have children of our own we have felt led by God to turn to adoption.  We did look at other medical procedures but we were never comfortable with those options.  This is when God started to lead our hearts to adopting.

After starting the process in May with a full time job worth of paperwork, FBI background checks and home studies the process started to move very quickly for us.  This is when we knew we were on the right track.  By the time the background checks and paperwork approval came back it was August.  We started to begin talking about fundraising opportunities to get our future child.  As we began to think about that we were active in the system for a week and a birth mother had already wanted to talk to us about adopting her child.  Fortunately we were both home that mid-afternoon and were able to talk to the birth mom immediately.  After the conversation with the birth mom we received a call 15 minutes later saying the birth mother had picked us to care for her child!  Praise God!

The baby is due on December 3 and is of Puerto Rican/Dominican Republic decent.  We are so excited for this.  We have already given half of the total adoption expense to secure the baby and the rest is due at finalization.  Total expense for this entire adoption will be $60,000.  We have moved forward with faith that God will provide the proper amount of financing we need to raise to secure our child.  Many people have come to us to offer help financially and have urged us to ask our friends and family for some support as well.  If you feel lead to help us out in any way we appreciate it.  No amount is to small and your generosity will never go unnoticed.  Thank you in advance for your love, support, encouragement, prayers and gift!  We love you all.  Thanks again!

Love Mark and Mercy
