Our family (Kevin, Rachel, and 1 year old Emmett) moved back from Israel early to adopt two beautiful sisters from Liberia after waiting years to be matched! Rhoda and Olivia, ages 4 and 2, are the two children God has chosen for our family and we could not be more humbled and thankful. At the moment, we are waiting on the Liberian government to finalize some of the legal issues that need to happen before the adoption can take place, but we are hoping to be flying to Liberia sometime in August to pick up our daughters. We, Emmett included, will then spend 4-6 weeks there finalizing the adoption before bringing Rhoda and Olivia back to our new home in Conyers, GA (just outside of Atlanta).
Both of us dreamed of adopting before we were married. God brought us together, and now He has made that dream a reality in Rhoda and Olivia. Ultimately, we are adopting because we feel like God has called us to. We believe that as humans we are all called to show the world what God is like, and the clearest reflection of that is in the self-sacrificial love of our King, Jesus, who laid his life down for others who did not deserve it. This kind of love is also compared to adoption in the Bible (Ephesians 1:5), and we believe that true happiness is only found when we love this way. So we are excited both for the joy of getting to love these precious girls and for the joy we know they will bring to our family!
So far, we have paid just over $25,000 in adoption costs, and we have about $24,000 remaining. To help us finish up our costs, we received an amazing matching grant from the Race for Orphans for $10,000! This means that if we can raise $10,000 for our adoption, they will match that to give us $20,000 total, and we will be almost fully funded. THAT WOULD BE INCREDIBLE.
We are thrilled to have been given the opportunity to play a small part in what God is doing in the world, and we hope you will partner with us in prayer and/or financial support!
