2 more waiting boys become sons!

Rachel Suero
Rachel Suero Fort Wayne, Indiana

We are the Suero family and we’d love to share our adoption story! Our family includes dad/Danny, mom/Rachel, and kids: Isaac, Jonah, Oliver, Lily, Ivy, and Simon. Isaac and Lily were adopted in 2020 from Ukraine via unrelated concurrent adoptions. We had always planned on adopting, but we thought maybe we’d adopt from China as Rachel’s 2 youngest brothers were adopted from there. We definitely thought we’d wait until our biological children were older, our lives were slower, and we had way less student loan debt. We thought we’d adopt just 1 child, as young as possible, with only minor needs. Never in our wildest dreams did we imagine we’d adopt 2 children with very profound special needs, who were older and were from Ukraine, or that we’d do so while expecting our 4th biological child! But we’re so happy and grateful that our story turned out much differently than we expected.

After coming home, in large part thanks to the matching grant we received from Lifesong in 2020 and the kindness of many donors, we settled into our new life as a family of 8. We ended up having to move to a new state to obtain better medical care for Isaac and we also had to purchase a vehicle that would actually fit all of us together with room for a wheelchair. We tried to recover financially from the adoptions, a job loss, medical complications including a heartbreaking miscarriage this year, and changing life circumstances such as the big move. God saw us through every challenge that came our way, but it didn’t exactly seem like the best time to consider growing our family. Thankfully, we know that His timing is better than ours, and He made it very apparent that we were meant to go down this path again.

So here we are again! We’re a bit surprised, but very excited that our family is growing through adoption once more. This time we’re adopting from Bulgaria and we’ve been matched with TWO waiting children. Listed online as "Jasper" and "Erik", J just turned 6 years old and has spent his whole life in an orphanage in Eastern Bulgaria and E is 19 months old and has spent his life in an orphanage too. Both boys have some big needs, including some very complex needs, but they're each so perfect to us. Some of their diagnoses include cerebral palsy, craniofacial abnormalities, epilepsy, Noonan syndrome, microcephaly, hydrocephalus, heart defects, blindness, significant delays in all areas, and brain differences. Many of their needs are unmet currently, most notably: the absence of the unconditional love and protection of a family.

Currently, our homestudy, USCIS fees, background and FBI clearances, all agency fees, and our foreign fee deposit have all been paid in full. What remains is: $11,200 in foreign fees, all travel expenses for 2 trips, and then medical exams, visas, and plane tickets home for the boys. We were offered an extremely generous matching grant of $7000 from Tim Tebow Foundation + Lifesong, so for the first $7000 we raise, every dollar will be doubled and we will be VERY close to our needed goal!

We are deeply grateful for every single person who has walked beside us as we bring our children home. Every kind word of encouragement, every last prayer, every dollar spared on behalf of helping us make it to J and E quickly means so much more than we can express. We cannot wait to share our happy update with ALL of our children together in our arms. Thank you so much.

Love,

The Sueros

We passed court!!!

July 19, 2024

One week ago, on July 12th in a courthouse in Bulgaria, a judge decided what we’ve known for many many months in our hearts: that these beautiful boys are our sons forever and always. Having this officially and legally declared has been such a source of joy and we are so grateful. Meet Caspar Yuri Suero, age 2, and Julian Caius Suero, age 6. Mama will be flying across the world in just a couple weeks, in early August to pick them up from their orphanages and bring them home forever. We’re hoping to be home by Julian’s 7th birthday next month. While this is the moment we’ve worked towards for nearly 1.5 years, it comes at a difficult time as our oldest son will just barely be home from an extremely major surgery. Please keep our whole family in your prayers during this time!

Specific prayer requests include:
1. Our Isaac’s health, recovery, and pain management after what we pray is a totally successful surgery.
2. The Julian and Caspar would be healthy from now until they’re safely home and that their little hearts would somehow be prepared so that they’re not so scared when we take them away from everything they’ve ever known.
3. For adoption finances to be completely met and for our finances in general as we’ve been hit with some major unexpected financial challenges recently.
4. That a way will be made for us to obtain an accessible vehicle so that we can safely (for them and for us) get our disabled children to therapy, appointments, church etc. Right now we do not have a vehicle that can transport Isaac, and we’re bringing home 2 more children who cannot walk at all. Although Caspar will hopefully walk (even with assistance) in the future, Julian and Isaac will be wheelchair users and require complete care for life. We need help in this area and have for some time now.
Thank you for any prayers on our family’s behalf!

Finally, a few people have reached out to ask if we have a registry for the boys and we do! We’re so thankful for anyone who wants to bless them/us in this particular way as we prepare to welcome them home. https://www.amazon.com/registries/gl/guest-view/265VBSZ3ZAZMI

Court date!!!

June 28, 2024

We found out today that we have a court date! In exactly 2 weeks, on July 12th, these boys we love so much and have called our own for so long will legally become our sons. We will travel shortly after that to pick them up and bring them home forever! Please pray for our court case, for quick travel dates to be issued, and for us to become fully funded soon. We have a Gobena coffee fundraiser and will receive 50% of all order totals that are placed through this link: https://my.gobena.org/stories/suero-adoption-fundraiser/

Please feel free to share our Gobena and Lifesong links with anyone you’d like! We appreciate everyone’s love and prayers and support more than we can say! We can’t wait to introduce our sons (and their names!) very soon!

Matched AGAIN!

December 21, 2023

We’re absolutely over the moon to announce 2 things: Our dossier was reviewed and accepted by the Ministry of Justice so now we just get through a bit more paperwork and wait to be invited to travel AND yesterday our application for a 2nd wonderful waiting child was APPROVED! We will now be bringing home little J along with this adorable and lovable little one who is currently 19 months old and is also living in an orphanage in Eastern Europe. Both boys have medical needs that have to be addressed as soon as we get them home. At this point it looks like we could be traveling for trip 1 as early as late January! Please keep this process and our little guys in your prayers as we push forward. We cannot wait to get through this last part and be able to travel soon! Thank you so much for all your support!

Progress!

December 12, 2023

We received our i800a approval from USCIS and now our entire dossier has been sent to Bulgaria! Now we simply wait for them to register it, send us our boy’s official referral, and issue travel dates! We hope and pray to be registered and get his referral before the MOJ in Bulgaria takes time off for Christmas and winter holidays.
