Adopting Haitian Brothers: #littlemenmeyer

Kimberly Meyer
Kimberly Meyer Edmond, Oklahoma

We are Clayton and Kim Meyer from Edmond, Oklahoma. God has given us a passion to offer hope and love, to the lost and forgotten of the world. Our family is 2 years into a journey of adopting 3 Haitian brothers, our ‘Little Men Meyer.’ Our boys are 16, 12 & 10.

Journey Began

Over the last 4 years we have had 5 painful miscarriages in between God blessing us with 2 miracle babies. While dating 15 years ago, we both shared that we had a passion to adopt a child from a 3rd world country. After the miscarriages, we knew God was leading us to start the adoption process.

Our adoption journey began with America World Adoption in December 2013, believing that God wanted us to adopt one boy, under the age of 5, from Haiti. That all changed in June 2015. Our Haiti Director posted in our private Facebook group a picture of 2 adorable boys who were 10 and 11 years old. These brothers had been on a waiting child list for several years. Something immediately happened in Kim’s heart when she saw this picture. Over the last 22 months we have seen countless photos of waiting children and have watched dozens of hard, emotional videos of children in Haitian orphanages, but nothing had ever moved Kim like this photo. We knew God was prompting us to request additional information.

Our Decision

We prayed, fasted and sought wise counsel for this massive decision. After many weeks of prayer, we knew God wanted us to pursue adopting these two brothers. We have nicknamed them our ‘Little Men Meyer.’  We have been given a ‘soft referral’ for the boys and our dossier has been submitted to the Haitian IBESR, specifically for our little men.

About 4 weeks after we received our ‘soft referral’, the orphanage Director contacted our Haiti Director with a very hard question for us.  Would we consider adopting the boys’ older brother as well, before he ages out of the adoption system? Once he turns 16, he is no longer adoptable. He will turn 16 in mid-December.  A family had been trying to adopt the oldest brother, but because they were unable to get their dossier completed fast enough, we were now being asked to adopt all 3 boys, so they could stay together.

We prayed and prayed and prayed for many weeks. We sought additional Godly counsel and knew, God wanted us to say YES! So, we are now pursuing the 3 brothers! No doubt, many will think we are crazy for wanting to adopt 3 older boys but God has asked us to do this and we are trusting in Him to provide everything we need to become the Meyer party of 7!

We have saved and raised $20,000 so far. Now that we are adopting 3 kiddos, our adoption expenses have increased significantly. We currently need to raise an additional $54,000. We have been chosen for a $5,000 matching adoption grant through Lifesong, courteousy of the Karis Adoption Fund! We are so excited and grateful for such an amazing opportunity to encourage others to contribute to our adoption fund! Every dollar matters, especially when it will be matched up to $5,000!

We are so grateful for every single dollar that is donated because every dollar gets us closer to bringing our #littlemenmeyer home. Please follow our adoption journey and share our story on your social media sites. We also have a blog: adoptinghaitianbrothers@blogspot.com

You can give online, but please note that STRIPE does charge an administrative fee (2.2% +.30 USD per transaction). Your donations will be decreased by this amount. EXCITING update!

September 19, 2016

We received an exciting update today for our #littlemenmeyer.

The IBESR in Haiti has requested that we send a payment, which is the very last step to receiving the referral.  Our adoption agency forwarded the requested amount of money today, so we can anticipate a referral, literally any day now. We have been waiting for this referral for over 13 months now, so we are pretty excited for this update.

Here is how YOU can help our family bring our 3 boys home from Haiti. We need to raise $9,550 in the next 30 days.  We would be so grateful if you would share our adoption Facebook page: Adopting Haitian Brothers as well as praying for our boys and our family as we wait.

Please continue to pray that God would provide what we need, when we need it.
