We are currently matched with a 3 year old boy in China we'll name Moses Miles Arey, and we’re praying the Lord would make a way for us to go get him soon. We can’t wait to bring him home. We’re looking to raise money for the last 1/3 or so of our needed funds, and we’re SO thankful to have a $2,500 matching grant through Hamilton Baptist Church. We are so confident the Lord has brought us to grow our family this way, at this time, through this country and we couldn’t be more excited!
Neil and I arrived at this resolution at different times. Neither of us grew up knowing many people who were adopted, and while we both loved the idea, it stayed an idea wrapped in so many unknowns that neither of us could picture how it would play out in our lives.
I got more exposure to the reality of adoption in my early twenties through my church in Austin, and it went from an idea to a possibility that I couldn’t shake. When Neil and I were married and ready to grow our family, we had three miscarriages that illuminated a false sense of control in our lives. We submitted our family and our plans to the Lord for His glory alone. We then had a healthy son, Austin, who is a silly, sweet, playful, independent, flexible, loving, three-year-old. When we wanted to grow our family again, we just weren’t able to get pregnant. It was a painful season of waiting, praying, crying and pleading with the Lord. Then we started talking about making that adoption idea a reality for our family. After a year of prayer, long conversations, counsel and research, that idea turned into excitement and passion. We both landed on an affirmative YES and RIGHT NOW.
This past Easter, the theme at our church was “New Life.” So, while we had landed on adopting earlier, we waited a few days so we could submit our application to adopt on Easter Sunday. We wanted to say yes to new life in our family through adoption the same day we celebrated our new life through Jesus’ adoption of us into His.
