2 orphanages in Ukraine

Jeff Smale
Jeff Smale Mansfield, Ohio

We are Jeff and Mollie, and a family not new to adoption. Our first adoption was a baby boy in 1992, our first  adoption after the death of our only child in 1991.  She was born with Down syndrome and her name was Hannah.

Years later we would be blessed with 3 more biological children added to our family.  Also during those years, we were able to adopt 4 girls with Down syndrome.  Other than 3, all are grown, married, or live independent.  Jeff is a Semi retired Baptist Pastor of 35 years but still serving the Lord in ministry.  That ministry encompasses traveling to various churches to help start and bring awareness to  ministries for people with special needs and their families.

Though we were older parents, We were drawn to adoption  by a picture on  R. Rainbow of a little girl with Down syndrome. We prayed and felt led to go forward with adoption.

When we submitted our dossier to Ukraine, we learned this little girl was suddenly unavailable! We prayed and felt led to travel to Ukraine on a blind referral and let God lead us. We met Tetiana and Kira! Kira has cerebral palsy and Tetiana has no known special needs. We went on trip one  by raising our own funds thru garage sales and other hard work!

We then returned on trip two and had received a small grant and some donations on RR.

We were able to bring home Tetiana but must return for Kira.

Due to her special needs a friend has offered to go and help Mollie with this adoption workshops Jeff takes care of the family at home.... We are excited to bring Kira home where she will get the medical care she so desperately needs and an education as well.

We are so grateful to Lifesong for offering  us a matching grant to fascilitate this adoption!

We since learned court is April 1rst so we are working to raise funds. If you can help us we would be so grateful! Thank you for any amount!

With gratitude,

the Smales

Journey to Ukraine

March 23, 2021

We have brought one of the girls home! Tetiana is here! She is doing well. We have enrolled her in school and she has a turoe to learn English. She is happy!

We are returning to Ukraine in April to finalize our adoption of Kira. Please pray for us as there are restrictions happening in Ukraine that may delay the process. We need a helper to go with Mollie since Kira has Cerebral palsy and it’s difficult for her to travel in airports without a wheelchair. We will cover the expenses of the helper to be able to go. So carrying luggage paperwork and luggage and Kira will need extra help. Jeff will remain to care for other daughters. Thank you for your help! We have a matching grant and have begun to fundraise for it but time is short for us to accomplish all of this.
