After almost 4 years of waiting the Lord gave us not just one phone call that would change our lives forever, but 2 phone calls within 18 hours. We had been matched with two birth mothers, in two states.
While waiting so long, we started praying Eph 3:20 over our adoption which says, “To Him who is able to do more then we can ask or imagine!” We asked God to do so through our adoption and to wow us with His plans. In this case, He answered our prayer… by doing something we never imagined.
On June 13, I received a phone call telling us we got chosen by a mama we wrote a letter to in Florida. She was having a baby girl due in October and was excited about choosing us to parent her baby. I was ecstatic, we’ve been waiting for this call for years and of course it came when Michael was out of town and near no wifi! I finally got connected to him and we cried, we laughed, we prayed, we were amazed that it was finally happening!!
However, our story was only getting started we just didn’t know…
The next day on June 14 I received another phone call from a different agency saying, “You’ve been chosen by birth mom and dad with a baby boy due in 6 weeks.” My first reaction was shock! Ahh how? No matches for 4 years now 2? What do we do now?
I called Michael again on his missions trip and I wish I could have recorded his face when I told him “You are not going to believe me when I say this but our agency called we got matched AGAIN!”
We both immediately without hesitation wanted to adopt both babies, we just didn’t know how! You see Michael and I always have had a desire to adopt more then one child because we really wanted our adopted children to have a buddy that would know what it’s like to be adopted, to have birth families, to share this part of their life with. But Michael and I both talked about how we didn’t think we could endure another 4 year adoption process it was too hard on our hearts. I just feel like the Lord was listening in on all our desires, plans, thoughts and smiling like, “guys I know what I’m doing here, I know why I’m having you wait.” So when we got matched with both we said we’d like to pursue both. One of the agencies wanted us to choose between the children! “You have until tomorrow morning 8am.” we were told.
I remember sobbing on the front stairs alone thinking how am I supposed to choose between children? We couldn’t imagine making that choice – we had prayed for these kids, we wanted these kids, we were prepared for these kids (ish) and these birth moms had chosen us!
That evening Michael and I cried and prayed together asking God to provide a way for us to bring both babies home. I remember us laughing a little like I know God we’ve always only prayed for one baby but now we want two please help us make that happen!!
Somehow God provided a route, and it came through finding new agencies, getting a lawyer for the first time, and doing mountains of paperwork. So, we faithfully worked hard to bring both these kids home.
This is where your help comes in, with two adoptions comes 2 match fees, 2 home studies, 2 finalizations and the list goes on as you can imagine!! Any help we would be so appreciative! Any money that we raise over our fees will go into grants to assist other families that are adopting.
